What is your favorite way to use the Moonlight Sword? FromSoftware has made it a habit to include the Moonlight Sword in almost all of their games since it was first used in King’s Field. The sword looks different in each FromSoftware series, but it’s usually a big, blue, magical sword that can shoot energy beams in a crescent shape at enemies.
Moonlight Swords are very special blades that are often the strongest weapons in FromSoftware games. They aren’t usually easy to get, and you have to know how to get many of them before you even start a game. It can be annoying, but almost always the weapons are worth the trouble. There are more than 20 versions of the sword, and while they are all good, there are a few that stand out.
Dark Moon Greatsword – Elden Ring

The Elden Ring‘s Dark Moon Greatsword is a big sword that you get when you finish all of Ranni’s quests. Magic users and warriors both love the sword because it is both beautiful and strong. The Dark Moon Greatsword not only gets better the smarter you are, but it also makes frost build up whenever it hits.
When the Moonlight Greatsword skill for the sword is used, the Dark Moon Greatsword gains 65 more magic damage and 15 more frost build-up. The weapon’s power attack also changes. Now, the melee weapon can fire a blue beam in the shape of a crescent at enemies. Moonlight Swords usually have the ability to shoot an energy beam, but the Dark Moon Greatsword stands out because it builds up frost and has beautiful visual effects.
Holy Moonlight Sword – Bloodborne

The Holy Moonlight Sword stands out in Bloodborne in many ways. You can get it by beating Ludwig, The Holy Blade. The Holy Moonlight Sword is the best weapon for hunters who want to play an Arcane build. It is a dull-looking one-handed sword that can change into a glowing two-handed greatsword.
The Holy Moonlight Sword can fire energy waves at enemies, just like other Moonlight Swords. You need Quicksilver Bullets to use these waves, but if you have put all of your stat points into Arcane, you can do a lot of damage with them. The sword is a nice change from the many saw-based weapons in Bloodborne, and the intricate patterns on the blade make it stand out from the other Moonlight Swords in the Souls series.
Moonlight Sword – 3D Dot Game Heroes

The PlayStation 3 game 3D Dot Game Heroes is a strange little thing. The game was made by Silicon Studio, and FromSoftware put it out in Japan in 2009. The game is a tribute to classic action role-playing games like The Legend of Zelda, but it uses 3D pixels instead of 2D graphics.
The only way to get the Moonlight Sword in 3D Dot Game Heroes is to do a questline called Game Design, which is a reference to the Armored Core series by FromSoftware. When you finish the quest, you’ll get the sword, and it’s a good one. When swung, the Moonlight Sword does a lot of damage and takes up most of the screen. It has way too much power, but it fits perfectly with a game that is already silly.
07-Moonlight – Armored Core 4/Armored Core: For Answer

The 07-Moonlight is the fourth generation of Armored Core’s Moonlight laser blade. It is a very powerful weapon. The 07-Moonlight is easy to get, unlike some of the other items in the series. In both Armored Core 4 and Armored Core: For Answer, you have to beat certain NPC pilots to get the weapon.
In previous generations of the series, the Moonlight laser blades usually had a longer range and did more damage than other laser blades. The 07-Moonlight goes one step further. When the Next is activated, a purple blade comes out that is bigger than the weapon itself. This makes it much more useful in battle than the older versions of the weapon.
Moonlight Sword – King’s Field 3

This version of the Moonlight Sword can be found in King’s Field 3 (or, in North America, King’s Field 2). It has two different shapes. The weapon’s first form is the same as it was in the other King’s Field games. It has a long, clear blue blade with a gold hilt and hand grip.
After you beat King Alfred, the sword changes. The grip and hilt now have red and gold spikes on them. Along with the energy wave, the weapon now has a new magic attack that fires lightning bolts. The ability to upgrade the sword is a nice touch that makes getting this Moonlight Sword feel more rewarding than it did in previous King’s Field games.
Large Sword Of Moonlight – Demon’s Souls

Even though it’s not the most powerful version of the Moonlight Sword, the Large Sword of Moonlight looks better in the PlayStation 5 remake of Demon’s Souls. The first version of the sword was almost the same as the King’s Field 2 Moonlight Sword, but it didn’t have the energy slash that could hit from far away.
Even though the Demon’s Souls remake didn’t add ranged attacks to the Large Sword of Moonlight, it did a great job of giving the sword a new look. The dull, see-through blade is gone, and in its place is a solid, crystal-colored blade that glows magically. The glowing trail left by each weapon swing is a great way to remind you that the sword does pure magic damage, which is something that earlier Souls games didn’t do.
Moonlight Greatsword – Dark Souls 2

Dark Souls 2 is the runt of the litter when it comes to the Dark Souls games, and the Moonlight Greatsword is no different. The Moonlight Greatsword, which can be unlocked in Dark Souls 2 after completing a lengthy questline (or by simply killing the questline NPC), is the only Moonlight Sword in the Souls series that can be modified.
In most Souls games, unique weapons can only be upgraded, not changed. This version, on the other hand, lets you infuse the sword like any other weapon, so you can change the type of damage from magic to fire or lightning. It’s one of the strangest versions of the Moonlight Sword because you can add status effects like poison and keep the sword’s ability to launch the famous magical beams with a heavy attack.
Moonlight Sword – King’s Field: The Ancient City

King’s Field: The Moonlight Sword from the Ancient City is a beautiful version of the weapon. It takes a while to get the sword because you have to find enough keys to fill a janitor’s key ring, but it’s worth it to get this powerful weapon. The magic attack of this version of the Moonlight Sword, in addition to its icy blue blade, makes it stand out.
The sword, like all Moonlight Swords in King’s Field, can fire a beam of magical energy at your enemies. In this case, though, when the first beam is shot, it breaks into several other beams that move together to form a fence of magical death. It’s a spectacular sight to behold, and it’s a shame the attack doesn’t appear in other FromSoftware games.
MLS Bazooka – Metal Wolf Chaos

Chaos is what Metal Wolf Chaos is. FromSoftware made and released the game, which is the answer to the question “What if we took Armored Core and made it American?” There are a lot of big guns, explosions, and corny lines of dialogue in Slope Game.
In Armored Core, FromSoftware made a mech-specific version of the Moonlight Sword, but in Metal Wolf Chaos, they just made a big version of the King’s Field sword that works like a bazooka. It’s crazy to see, but it makes sense because you can also use a giant soap bubble gun and something called the Super Bowl, which is an American flag grenade launcher.
X099 Another Moon – Armored Core: Verdict Day

The X099 Another Moon laser blade is the rarest version of the Moonlight. It is almost impossible to find online. The only way to get the weapon for the Japanese version of Armored Core: Verdict Day is to pre-order Armored Core: Last Raven Portable for the PlayStation Portable.
The X099 is like the X100 Moonlight and LB-66 Moonlight laser blades, but its laser is dark purple instead of blue. It does 1.5 times as much damage as the other laser blades and looks like a scary purple cloud when it is used. There probably won’t be another Moonlight as rare as the X099 Another Moon, which is good because it’s a shame that it’s so hard to find and enjoy.
